Don’t be surprised if your dog sleeps a lot the first day or two back at home. The home environment is very quiet and calm after the excitement of boarding.
You are welcome to bring your dog's own bed if you know your dog won't destroy it during their stay with us. We do ask any bed you bring be able to fit into a regular size washing machine. If you would rather, we can provide blankets for your dog to sleep on. All dogs are provided with a kuranda bed (www.kuranda.com) or kennel deck (www.kenneldeck.com) to keep them off the concrete floor.
Yes, you may. We ask that you only bring one or two toys labeled with your pet's name. We ask that you do not bring the whole toy box as we have to keep track of everyone’s belongings. We recommend that you do not bring your pet's most prized possessions as anything can happen
Yes you may. As a matter of fact, we recommend that you do. We request that all food be portioned out per meal in ziplock baggies. We also ask that those bags be brought in a cat-proof container. Please include an extra meal or two in case of delay in returning from your trip.
We currently serve Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato for dogs and NutriSource Cat and Kitten food for cats
No, you do not. We will provide both stainless steel water buckets and stainless steel food dishes that we can easily sanitize between uses. If you have a slow feed bowl for your pet you are welcome to bring that.
Yes they may. Our dog runs and cat condos will easily accommodate multiple pets. However, some pets may be better in separate spaces. Things to take into consideration when booking a room is how your pet reacts to stress? Do they need to be separated at meal time or when treats or toys are present? We have a vert stimulating environment and sometimes pets who get along at home may not when stressed or over-stimulated.
That is up to you. We do have the space and availability to either allow animals their own play/exercise space or to match them up with other pets of similar temperament
For winter months we are equipped with radiant tube heaters. They are very efficient and keep the kennel area nice and warm. During the day the thermostat is turned down due to the guillotine doors being opened.
For the summer we have Cool Zone misting fans. They are great! They easily keep the barn 20 or so degrees cooler inside than outside even with the guillotine doors being open.
We do allow tours. Due to COVID restricions we have had to change from no appoitments necessary - to requesting that you do call ahead of time to make sure we do not have too many persons here at one time. Tours are currently offered in the afternoons between 4 and 6.
This rarely happens. But if it does we will always make an effort to contact your vet first. If immediate medical attention is required we are about 10 minutes from 4 different veterinary hospitals including one emergency hospital.
Yes, you may. We make every attempt to answer the phone during business hours. Sometimes we are out playing with the dogs and unable to get to the phone. Please don’t give up – either leave a call back number or try again. Mornings and late afternoons are the hardest times to catch us at the desk. You may also text us for updates.
We require that all dogs be current on their rabies, DHPP and bordetella vaccines. Bordetellas must be current at least two weeks prior to boarding. (Bordetella is not always given as part of your pet's routine vaccine protocol. Please check with your vet to make sure your pet has had this vaccine.) Cats are required to be current on rabies and FVRCP vaccines. For all pets we require proof of current vaccines via text or email prior to check in.
We do not require the flu vaccine. At this time we recommend you discuss with your vet and follow their direction on if they feel your pet should have that vaccine or not.
We require the bordetella to be given two weeks prior to boarding because it is a lot like a human flu vaccine. Just as some people will have a reaction to the flu vaccine and develop mild flu like symptoms, so too will some dogs develop canine cough-type symptoms from the bordetella vaccine. If your dog is going to develop those symptoms they will usually show up in 7-14 days. Stress (such as boarding) is more likely to cause that reaction
Yes, we do. We have two bathing options for your pet.
1. We can do the bath for you. This will include brush out, nail trim, wash and blow dry. (please see rate sheet for current bath options)
2. Self-service dog wash. Use our facilities and you can wash your own dog. This service is free and we will provide you with the shampoo, towels, blow dryer, nail trimmers, etc.
The owners live on site, so the dogs are checked on regularly even outside of business hours
Yes, we can. We do not charge extra for pills, eye drops or ear ointments. We do not take dogs requiring injectable medications.
We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards.
I should hope not! However there are certain factors we can't control. For example, it's possible to catch if a dog was just at the vet and someone simply walked through with their sick dog. Dogs could be exposed at the dog park or even at any local pet store or park, or daycare facility. What we do to help minimize exposure is to require all dogs who stay here to have a bordetella vaccine that is current or given at least two weeks prior to arrival.
At Badger Creek Kennels, we do everything possible to ensure that your pet’s stay is comfortable and stress-free. Please understand, however, that boarding can be stressful for some animals, no matter how much loving care is provided. They are in strange surroundings with people they do not know, and their daily routine is changed from the home environment. No matter the age of the pet, he or she may become stressed by these changes.
While stress does not cause illnesses, it is well documented that it can cause an underlying illness to surface. That is, the pet has had the illness for some time, but not until the animal is stressed does the illness show up. This can include viral or bacterial illnesses. We do everything we can to ensure a safe and sanitary environment which minimizes exposure to bacteria and viruses; however, we are unable to control all conditions or airborne particles. Thank you for your understanding.
